Banquet Concludes Season (10/16)
.....
The season ending banquet was, as usual,
an outstanding affair. This year marked somewhat of a difference, in that
due to construction, it was held at the junior high school. A great time was
had by all, as we recognized the team and their achievements.

District III Championships
(10/29 & 31) .....
Red
Lion began the District III Championships with pool play at Hempfield. A
long night ended with Red Lion beating Carlisle and Conestoga Valley, while
losing to Hempfield. Their 2-1 record was enough to advance to the
quarterfinal round. Thursday included a trip to Northern High School to play
Susquehannock. Three previous losses to Susquehannock were in the back of
everyone's minds. Tonight would be different. While the results were the
same, Red Lion put on their finest show of the season against a team that
eventually won the District III Championship. Scores were 23-25, 25-20,
25-19, 25-16. Click

York-Adams League Championships
(10/25 & 27) .....
Red Lion was unable to defend its County
Championship, but a decent showing was made, none the less. In the first
round, Red Lion matched up with Division II #2 seed, Delone Catholic. A
tough match against a solid program was anticipated. Red Lion put together a
great night and won the match in three games (25-14, 25-21, 25-14). All
three Division I teams advanced to the semi-finals except for Dallastown,
who lost to a tough and experienced York Catholic team. On Saturday, Red
Lion faced Susquehannock who was ranked #3 in the state. Susquehannock won
the match and eventually the title.

Penn State Trip (10/12) .....
Red Lion took its annual trip to Penn
State. As always, it was a blast. Happy Valley was in full swing for
Homecoming Weekend. We had a chance to have a great meal, tour the campus
and downtown, and of course, stop by the Creamery. Penn State made short
work of Michigan beating, them in three hgames. In addition to the
traditional team picture at the Nittany Lion by Rec Hall, the seniors also
posed ..... Erin Wright, Kristy Geyer, Megan Wise, Megan Seymour. |
Red Lion Qualifies for Post season
Tournaments (10/11) .....
Red Lion beat York High in three games.
Their eleventh win of the season qualifies them for the post season. Red
Lion will participate in both the Yrok Area League Championships and the
District III Championships. With two games and three playing dates
remaining, it now becomes a question of what seed the girls will carry into
the second season. Congratulations!

A Win Over Dallastown - First Half Over
(9/22) .....
Our cross-town friends at Dallastown came
to Red Lion for the final game of the first half of the YAIAA league
schedule. Both teams entered the match with identical records of 6-1. An
exciting night of volleyball ended with Red Lion winning the match in four
games (25-18, 25-21, 19-25, 25-18) ..... Red Lion finished the first half
with a record of 7-1, sitting in sole possession of second place. Red Lion
was able to better their beginning of season goal of 6-2. |
|
Spring-Ford Varsity Tournament
(9/22) .....
The varsity traveled deep into District I territory to participate in the
first annual Rams Rumble Tournament at Spring-Ford High School. After going
undefeated in pool play (8-0), they advanced to the play-offs. In the
semifinals they beat North Penn (25-15, 25-12). In the finals they beat West
Chester East (26-24, 25-20). In recognition of their title, the girls were
rewarded with championship T-shirts.

Spring Grove Thriller (9/20) .....
While last year Red Lion was the York
County Champion for the three days of the tournament, Spring Grove was
certainly the York Champion for the three months of the fall season. With
this background, the first matchup of the 2007 season was sure to be a good
one. As the night began, it certainly didn't appear that way. Spring Grove
took total control through the first two games, winning by scores of 16-25
and 15-25. Then the tide slowly turned. Red Lion won the final three games
and the match by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 15-12. This was the first five game
match ever, that Red Lion lost the first two games and won the next three.
This was certainly the time to make Red Lion history. |
Cedar Cliff JV Tournament (9/15) .....
The junior varsity squad traveled to Cedar Cliff for another tournament.
After going undefeated in pool play, Red Lion beat Mechanicsburg in the
semifinals. The finals saw another match with Dover, who Red Lion had faced
last week in the finals of the Dallastown tournament. Unfortunately, not
only was the opponent the same, but so were the results. Dover won the best
of three match, two games to none. Regardless of the finals, it was another
great day for the junior varsity squad. |
|
Big Win Over Central (9/13) .....
No
matches throughout the years get better than Red Lion and Central. Last year
these two teams squared off for the York County Championships. Both teams
experienced significant losses to graduation and Central had a new coach.
Jenny Reichard replaced long time Pennsylvania Volleyball Hall of Fame
member Andi Copp. Jenny is one of the finest players York has ever produced,
playing her high school ball at Spring Grove and her collegiate ball at
Western Kentucky under well-known coach Geri Polvino. The first matchup of
the 2007 season was no exception. After a tough first game loss, Red Lion
bounced back to win the next three and the match by scores of 15-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.
Senior Megan Seymour turned in a career best performance with 7 blocks and
12 kills. |
The Libero .....
Three years ago the PIAA instituted the use of the new position, the libero.
Senior Megan Wise has held down that job since her sophomore year. Beginning
last year the libero was also allowed to serve. This year, Mr. Daugherty
thought it was time to also use a libero on the junior varsity level. Tara
Boyd was selected to begin what might be the second generation of libero for
the Red Lion Volleyball Program.
|
Dallastown Tournament (9/7 & 9/8).....
Both the varsity and JV squads competed
in the Dallastown Tournament. Friday night the JV's
went undefeated in pool play, beat Dallastown in the semi-finals and lost to
Dover in the finals. On Saturday, the varsity also went undefeated in pool
play. They got a bye into the semi-finals where they lost to eventual
tournament winner Dallastown. Senior Erin Wright and junior Kelsey Fuller
where named to the All-Tournament Team. |
|
Both Squads Open Season With Wins (8/30).....
There must be something about New Oxford. Last year, the match gets "rained
out". This year there is no scoreboard. Regardless, both the varsity and JV
squads opened the season with wins. Three games to win the varsity and three
games to win the JV.

Red Lion Season Starts At New Location
..... The
high school campus seems to have undergone more physical change over the
summer than over the last forty years. For the first time volleyball tryouts
and the pre-school camp will be held at the junior high school. This move
was necessitated by the electric needing to be shut down at the high school
for a week. Hopefully school will start on time and we will quickly return
to our home at the high school. |

Summer Camp A Big Hit .....
Sixth grade girls from the Red Lion
school district came to the gym in July for the fifth annual four day
volleyball camp. A great time was had by all as they were introduced to the
skills of this great game. Erin Wright, Megan Wise, Megan Seymour and Brooke
Eveler helped as court coaches. A highlight of the camp took place when
present and past Red Lion players put on an exhibition game …..
