Penn State Trip (10/7/08) .....

It was a beautiful fall day for the annual Penn State trip. Homecoming weekend provided a very busy State College town upon our arrival. Activities included the usual meal at Hoss', a chance to view the men's team practice, the Homecoming parade and of course a trip to The Creamery. It was an easy night for the PSU women beating Michigan in three games. The girls even had a chance to get autographed pictures from the NCAA Championship Men's Team who received their championship rings at the match.

League Schedule Done - On to the Post-Season (10/16/08) .....

The league season came to an end with Senior Night against Spring Grove. A win would have given Red Lion a share of the division championship. It wasn't to happen with the match going to Spring Grove in four close exciting games. The junior varsity finished the season with the best record in recent history (11-3). Congratulations to Mr. Daugherty and the squad! ..... Red Lion now carries a number #3 into the County and District III Championships. First up is Delone Catholic in the opening round of the York Adams League Tournament. First round of the District Championships will be against the #8 seed from the Mid-Penn league.

Dallastown Match (10/2/08) .....

Dallastown held the top spot in the league standings when Red Lion traveled cross town for their second match of the season. The junior varsity started off the evening winning their match in two close games (25-23, 26-24). Following a performance by the Dallastown Dance Team, the mood was set. Two close games were won by Red Lion, while the girls came out roaring in the third game to take the match (25-23, 25-23, 25-13).

The junior varsity put up valiant effort against an extremely talented Rocket squad, but lost in two. The varsity squad recorded a great victory with a three game win (25-15, 25-17, 25-16).

Mothers & Daughters .....

Three members of the 2008 volleyball team have mothers who are legacies of the program. The mothers of Jenna Hammers, Carly McGlade and Jackie Reichard are all former Red Lion volleyball players.

Susquehannock and Dover Headed to Division II .....

Northeastern Moving Up .....

Every two years the PIAA classifies each school by size and the sports they offer. Fall 2008 starts another cycle. New classification numbers means Susquehannock and Dover will be moving down to Division II, while Northeastern will be moving up to Division I. Both these schools have a rich history and tradition of success in volleyball. They have given credibility to our league over the years, both within our district and throughout the state. There have been many great matches with Red Lion and these two schools over the years. Coach Marrison and Grady will be missed. Division I's loss will be Division II's gain. Likewise we welcome the Northeastern Bobcats to Division I. Northeastern also has a rich tradition of volleyball and I'm sure will not miss a beat replicating their success in Division I.

Red Lion Still Under Construction .....

Last year the season began at the junior high. This year we return to the high school for pre-school camp. This fall is going to be a challenge. While the end is in site, we are not there yet. As the saying goes, "A temporary inconvenience for a permanent improvement". The auxiliary gym is being transformed into a wrestling room. So with no second gym, we will travel for our two scrimmages and both squads (varsity & JV) will be practicing in one gym.

Red Lion Wins Academic Award .....

The American Volleyball Coaches Association recognized 141 high school volleyball teams throughout the US. Pennsylvania had only seven schools that received this prestigious award. They needed a minimum of a 3.3 GPA for the entire team for the entire school year. Red Lion had a GPA of 3.4. This is the eighth time we have won this award.
