Homecoming Parade (10/22/09) .....
For the first time in school history the
volleyball team participated in the Homecoming Parade. In the past, there
has always been a match. But moving the Spring Grove game allowed this to
take place. Through the work of Mr. Daugherty, a float to end all
floats was put together. Flat bed trailer, lights, music, signs and banners adorned the float. A great time was had by all. Of course, Sarah Yankowsky missed out on the fun, since she was a member of the Homecoming
Court and had her own ride.

End of League Schedule (10/21/09) .....
Red Lion has again advanced into the
post-season, finishing the league schedule with a record of 11 wins and 3
losses, in a tie for second place with Dallastown. Through the tie-breaker
procedures, Dallastown gets the second seed and Red Lion the third seed
going into the post-season. The York County League Tournament and the
District III Championships lie ahead.

Senior Night (10/20/09) .....
The first Senior Night in our new
facility was a rousing success. To quote the seniors, "We loved it". Seniors
Angie Folkenroth, Sarah Yankowsky, Jackie Reichard, and Courtney Dietz
played their last home match against York High. We also recognized two of
our three managers, Cooper Cicero and Cameron Nelson. Special thanks to the
senior parents for putting together an outstanding display in our lobby.

ESU & Red Lion Visit Millersville (10/10/09) .....
East Stroudsburg traveled to Millersville
for the mid-season PSAC cross-over matches. Along with East Stroudsburg came
three Red Lion alumni ..... junior Emily Detter, junior Brianne Bachman and
freshman Cassie Willman. Unfortunately, Brianne had sprained her ankle
Friday night and was out of action for the day. Emily (left side hitter) and
Cassie (setter) saw plenty of action. Despite a strong effort, Gannon
defeated East Stroudsburg. Doesn't get any better as a coach, than seeing
Red Lion alumni participate on the collegiate level.

Big Win Over Dallastown (10/8/09) .....
Red Lion hosted Dallastown in a big
rematch in the second half schedule. It was a long, hard fought match that
ended with Red Lion winning in five games. The scores were 18-25, 25-14,
20-25, 25-14, 15-13. This was the first 5 game match in our new gym. With
this win the team secured a spot in the 2009 YAIAA League Tournament and the
2009 District 3 Championships.

First Tournament Held In New Facility (10/3/09) .....
Red Lion hosted its first annual "Fall
Fling JV Tournament". The Red Lion JV's put in a solid performance with a
4-4 pool play record. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to advance to the
playoffs. The event and the facility was topnotch as the feedback from
coaches, officials and spectators was overwhelmingly positive.

First Half of League Season Ends (10/1/09) .....
The Spring Grove Match marked the end of the
first half of the YAIAA season. Excitement was in the air as a great match
was seen by all. Unfortunately, Red Lion was tough but not tough enough,
losing in three games to the #7 team in the state. Scores were 19-25, 23-25,
23-25 ..... Red Lion finished the first half with a record of 5-2, just one
game short of their goal of 6-1.
Note to all our fans ..... Spandex has
been outlawed in the stands !!!

|
Wilson Tournament (9/26/09) .....
Our third and final tournament. Again we
get out of pool play with a 5-3 record. A win over Daniel Boone by a score
of 25-11 in the quarter-finals was the highlight of the day. Daniel Boone is
at present the number 1 "AAA" team in District 3 out of the Berks League.
They also won the Manheim Central Tournament last weekend. A loss to Reading
Holy Name in the semis sent Red Lion home for the day. Finishing in the top
four of a tough 20 team tournament ..... Nice job, ladies!

Sandwich Sale
(9/23/09) .....
Seems to be a lot of history being made
this season and the sandwich sale was a part of it. Over 1500 sandwiches
sold, which was the most ever! Cameron Nelson set the all-time individual
record selling 170 sandwiches. He even got kicked out of the junior high for
soliciting.
In addition, two other team members, Courtney Dietz and Jackie Reichard sold
over one hundred. Tara Boyd almost reached the century mark with 94. Thanks
to all the members and parents who helped make this fundraiser such a great
success!!

Manheim Central Tournament
(9/19/09) .....
After a tough loss to Dallastown, Red
Lion headed to Manheim Central for its second tournament of the season. The
team began the day with a great pool play performance winning 5 games and
losing only 1. Their 5-1 record tied them for first with St. Pius X,
although St. Pius got the first seed on points. Red Lion then advanced to
the Gold Medal second reseed pool and it was loaded. The highlight of the
day was a solid win over host and Lancaster Lebanon League power Manheim
Central. A great match with their best performance of the season, finished
with the Lions on top, 25-19. The next two matches were against Berks' best,
Exeter and Daniel Boone. Two tough losses by scores of 25-27 and 21-25,
ended the day. Daniel Boone finsihed the day winning over Dover in the
finals. Red Lion showed they have what it takes to play with "the big
dogs". |
|
First Home Match Nets First Home Win
(9/15/09) .....
History was made as the first home match
was held in the Fitkee Center. The visiting South Western Mustangs were
beaten in three games by scores of 25-11, 25-22, 25-19.

Dallastown Tournament
(9/11-12/09) .....
Red Lion was the Dallastown Tournament
Champions! A solid performance through pool play got them the second seed
into the playoffs. A quarterfinal win over York Suburban and semi-final
victory over host Dallastown, landed them in the championship match against
Warwick. An exciting win over a tough Lancaster team ended with a score of
25-20 and the title ..... The junior varsity got out of pool play on Friday
night before falling to host Dallastown.

Annual Penn State Trip
(9/5/09) .....
A number of changes came to our annual
Penn State trip. The choice was Homecoming or Labor Day weekend - Guess
which date won? We left after practice on a beautiful fall day, stopping at
a pizza buffet in Harrisburg which seemed to be a rousing success and change
from our usual Hoses'. Penn State was in full swing as we made it to Happy
Valley in the midst of a home football game. Shopping, sightseeing and a
trip to the Creamery made for a quick afternoon. The girls got good standing
in lines as the Creamery and pictures at the Nittany Lion took some time.
Finally we all made it to Rec Hall were the PSU women made short work of
Pitt although Pitt was decent. Penn State is just, once again, that good.

Red Lion Opens Season In New Fieldhouse
(8/17/09) .....
A new gym and new equipment. Three full
practice courts ..... That's what awaited the Red Lion volleyball team as
they began their pre-school camp. Did I forget to mention the
air-conditioning? The girls even have their own private locker room.

Seniors Angie Folkenroth, Sarah Yankowsky, Jackie
Reichard, and Courtney Dietz take a break from practice in the new
fieldhouse. |
